    Each employee should Inspect all of their personal protection items. If the employee is not qualified to do the inspection the Foreman or other

    competent / qualified person should inspect each item with the employee. See the back of this sheet for inspection guidelines.

    PPE INSPECTION GUIDELINES

    HARD HATS

    • Inspect shell for dents, cracks, nicks, gouges, or any damage due to impact.

    • Inspect shell for degradation of the shell material due to ultraviolet light exposure, chemical exposure, temperature extremes exposure. This maybe apparent when the shell becomes stiff, brittle, faded, dull in color, or exhibits a chalky appearance. The hard hat can be tested by compressing the shell inward from the side about 1 inch, using both hands, and releasing the pressure without dropping the shell. The shell should quickly return to its original shape, exhibiting elasticity.

    • Inspect suspension for, tears, cracks, and frayed, broken parts, excessive wear.

    • Inspect for proper fit.

    BODY HARANESS

    • Inspect webbing for tears, cuts, burns, or chemical exposure.

    • Inspect buckles & rivets for deformities, missing springs, or abnormal wear.

    • Inspect D rings for cracks, wear, or deformities.

    • Inspect for proper fit.

    LANYARDS

    • Inspect strap for cuts, excessive wear, and fraying, chaffing, bunny fur, chemical exposure, ripping or unraveling. Inspect the shock absorber feature to insure it has not been loaded.

    • Inspect Snap hooks for excessive wear, damage or deformities. Inspect that latches, properly close & lock.

    • Inspect Grommets for excessive wear, damage or deformities.

    SAFETY GLASSES

    • Inspect lenses for scratches. Inspect lenses & frame for cracks, nicks, gouges or broken parts.

    • Inspect for proper fit.

    CUTTING GLASSES

    • Inspect lenses for scratches. Inspect lenses & frame for cracks, nicks, gouges or broken parts.

    • Inspect for proper type & shade of lenses / cover lenses.

    • Inspect for proper fit.

    FACE SHEILDS & WELDING HOODS

    • Inspect shell & lenses, for scratches, cracks, nicks, gouges or broken parts.

    • Inspect where applicable for proper type & shade of lenses / cover lenses

    • Inspect suspension for, tears, cracks, and frayed, broken parts, excessive wear.

    • Inspect for proper fit.

    EAR PROTECTION

    • Inspect ear plugs for damage & cleanliness.

    • Inspect ear muffs for cracks, nicks, gouges or broken parts.

    • Inspect suspension for, tears, cracks, and frayed, broken parts, excessive wear.

    • Inspect for proper fit.

    GLOVES

    • Inspect for tears, cuts, burns, holes, pliability & proper fit.

    BOOTS

    • Inspect tread & upper for cuts, tears, holes, delimitation.
